
Gregg W. Gries
Gregg W. Gries, 55, of Omaha arid band director at Riverside Middle School, Carson, Iowa, died May 31, 2005 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital. Funeral services were on Friday, June 3, 2005 at Broadway Methodist church in Council Bluffs, Iowa and the Burial service was at Climbing Hill, Iowa Cemetery.
Gregg was born March 18, 1950 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was adopted by Frank
and Edna Gries and grew up in Storm Lake, Iowa. He graduated Storm Lake High
School in 1968 and Buena Vista University in 1972 with a degree in Music
Education. He received his Masters degree from the University of South
Dakota in Vocal
Music Performance.
Gregg spent his adult life teaching music and history and coaching football and track in Iowa, for the last 10 years at Riverside middle school in Carson, Iowa. He wrote and taught a program for Commercial Truck Driving at Northwest Iowa Technical College. He was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church and was an Eagle Scout. He served as the Director of Music/Choir Director for various churches throughout Iowa and Nebraska for 25 years. He enjoyed singing, acting, running, cats and Husker Football. He also enjoyed working in the yard with his wife of 22 years, Donna and taking family vacations to Colorado.
Survivors include wife, Donna (Beem) Gries of Omaha; daughters, Elizabeth
Gries of Ames, Iowa, Emily Gries of Omaha; stepdaughters JaNean Stusse
and husband,
Al, of Onrnha, Patti McDaniel of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Deanna Leach and
husband, Paul, of South Sioux City, Neb; stepson, Mike Mitchell and
Summer Wilson
of Kansas City, Mo.; mother, Edna Gries of Omaha; grandchildren, Josh
and Jordyn
McDaniel, Kolin and Kyle Stusse, Zach and Alexandria Leach, Dodge and
Maggie Mitchell; many cousins.
